Scholarships are awarded as a fixed percentage reduction in fees, usually between 5 and 20%, for the full two years of our Sixth Form.
Sixth Form Dance Scholarships are awarded to students who can demonstrate skill, competence and commitment to the subject and who will also help to promote the department on a wider level throughout the school.
Eligibility
- You must apply online for this scholarship by Monday 14th October 2024.
- Candidates are to submit a letter of approximately 200 words outlining the reasons they are applying. You may wish to consider the following:
– Your understanding of what the scholarship entails
– Your suitability for the role of scholar
– Your commitment to Dance in the school
– Your understanding of Dance as a whole
– Your Dance interests
Selection process
Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an audition and short interview w/c 11th November 2024.
Candidates need to prepare a short solo of maximum 1 min 30 that demonstrates their technical and creative capability. This can be in the form of any dance style.
Dance Scholar benefits
Dance scholars will benefit from a wide range of exciting opportunities including:
- Mentoring from specialist staff:1:1 mentoring from specialist members of staff about academic progress and recommendations on how to wider learning.
- Working alongside scholars.
- Participating in workshops with outside dance artists and dance companies in a range of dance styles.
- Being part of an international performing arts tour.
- Facilitating school performances whilst working alongside the Head of Dance. Scholars will have the opportunity to perform in the annual dance production (& small scale performance evenings throughout the year) and choreograph for younger students in a range of styles or to create and perform a solo piece.
- Lead extra-curricular dance clubs and activities throughout the school year.
- Plan and lead workshops on the GDST dance festival, whilst working alongside outside dance artists.
- Help mentor GCSE students with their choreography exam pieces.
- Attending an extra curricular programme of trips and visits.
- Participate in the GDST Day of Dance at Pineapple Dance studios, taking part in a range of dance workshops led by artists working in the dance industry.
