Earlier this week, Sixth Form pupils volunteered to help teach children from Marjorie McClure School to swim and participate in PE lessons.

Marjorie McClure School is an all age special school that caters for pupils with a wide range of different complex needs including physical, medical, sensory and learning needs.  The school is part of the Youth Sport Trust, which supports inclusion in PE and swimming through staff training, competition and leadership opportunities for SEND students.

Since 2017, the volunteering scheme has become an integral part of the Sixth Form Darwin Elective program, offering pupils the opportunity to further develop their broader education and gain exposure to a wider range of skills and experiences.

In addition to providing our Sixth Formers with the chance to teach swimming and assist Marjorie McClure students in the water, they also organize various enjoyable activities. This presents a wonderful opportunity to work with others and enhance awareness about disabilities.

Following the training, the Sixth Formers will host sessions in the Bromley High School swimming pool. We look forward to continuing this collaboration between both schools, which benefits many.

“I loved seeing the smile on the children’s faces after each session and how their confidence grew with swimming.”
