Last Wednesday, award-winning author Caroline Lawrence visited Bromley High School to deliver a writing workshop to Year 7 pupils.

Caroline Lawrence is an English American author, best known for The Roman Mysteries series of historical novels for children. The series is about a Roman girl called Flavia and her three friends: Nubia (a freed slave girl), Jonathan (a shunned Jewish boy) and Lupus (a beggar boy without a tongue). The series has won numerous awards and has been published in many different languages worldwide.

Caroline spoke to the pupils about her writing career and presented them with the task of creating a story set in ancient Rome, providing them with lots of writing tips.

The pupils really enjoyed the exercise of creating stories about a hero, a mentor, an optional funny character and a main antagonist. Caroline then judged the stories herself and picked a winner out of the whole of Year 7

“It was a lot of fun to learn about story building and character growth from a developed author and I found it very informative. Caroline Lawrence really has a love of ancient Rome and history and it was a great pleasure learning about it from her.” Anvesha, Year 7 pupil
