The school community is lucky to have two opportunities to make New Year’s resolutions: one in September and one in January.
With a new beginning last September, I committed to the gratitude habit, where I daily reflect on the things I am truly grateful for. These moments of reflection help me to remain grounded and focused during my busy day.
This January, I have taken the popular decision to stop eating processed sugars, having rather indulged over the Christmas break. I have also challenged myself to try something new to provide both a physical and mental challenge. Every week I take my son to rugby training and help with the various volunteering roles that are required to keep the club operating, such as second-hand sales and manning the refreshment stall. Seeing the fun that he has covered in mud and running free, I decided to give it a go! I am now on my third training session and enjoying it immensely.
The benefits of the exercise on your physical and mental wellbeing are profound. What surprised me the most was the confidence it took to engage in a contact sport. It was certainly out of my comfort zone! What can’t be understated is the hearty welcome I received from the women’s team, and the look on my friends and family’s faces when they received the photos of me on the pitch!
When making your own New Year’s resolutions, choose a goal that makes you feel motivated. An objective that will enhance positivity and self-care so that you thrive in 2023. May I end in extending my warmest wishes to all for a happy, healthy and successful year ahead.
